Avnet, a leading global technology distributor, has announced the launch of MiniZed Zynq SoC, a new entry-level development platform for single-core Xilinx Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC devices.
The starter kit is priced at $89 and is available for ordering with shipments starting in early July. It has support for cloud connectivity and industrial IoT applications such as motor control and embedded vision and is easy on the pockets.
MiniZed exhibits the power of the Zynq-7000S SoC device family, which features a single-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor paired with 28nm Artix-7 based programmable logic. It is the lowest cost entry point to the scalable Xilinx Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC development platform. It has a very compact design and supports on-board connectivity through USB, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It has a physical board interface featuring user LEDs, a button and a switch, with the JTAG circuitry incorporated onto the MiniZed base board.
Evan Leal, director of product marketing at Xilinx, said: “The kit is designed for ease of use with tutorials that accelerate customer prototyping for embedded designs. MiniZed also features Xilinx’s SDSoC Development Environment, which enables software engineers to quickly migrate compute-intensive C/C++ functions to hardware, effectively accelerating the functions and offloading the processor.”
On the subject of platforms, Sierra Wireless joined hands with ARM, Bosch Sensortec, MediaTek, Orange, Qualcomm Technologies and Talon Communications earlier this month to launch mangOH Red open-source hardware platform aimed for industrial IoT and maker communities to efficiently manage prototyping and testing of ideas in minimal investments.
Avnet, meanwhile, partnered with AT&T in March to develop Avnet Global LTE IoT Starter Kit, which will be powered by AT&T. The partnership will enable Avnet to seamlessly integrate AT&T’s cloud application development to develop next-generation IoT devices with global cellular connection.
