Despite Motorola’s many radical changes over the years, one thing has stayed the same: their Motorola Moto G line remains tremendously popular. While the Moto G might no longer be the “value king” it used to be years back, it still serves its purpose of being a perfectly capable, uncompromised low-end/mid-range device at an affordable price point. The latest iteration of the Moto G line, the Moto G6 lineup, launched earlier this year and brought 18:9 displays, glass bodies, and other “premium” features to the lower end spectrum of smartphones. They’re expected to be followed by the seventh-generation Moto G7 phones, which are expected to launch in early 2019, and leaks/rumors have already begun to spin around.
The alleged logos for both the Moto G7 and the Moto G7 Plus have now surfaced online thanks to Indian technology site MySmartPrice. This doesn’t really tell us a lot aside from confirming that both phones will be coming next year. But, if legit, this would confirm that a successor for the Moto G6 Play, a Moto G7 Play, will not be happening next year, as there is no logo for the aforementioned phone.
Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Motorola is killing off the “Play” phones, as they did not release a Moto G5 Play to succeed the Moto G4 Play either, yet they released the G6 Play. But this does mean that those looking for the most affordable Moto G7 next year will have to get the regular one instead of looking at a lower end option.
Pictures of a supposed Moto G7 pre-release unit popped up online a few weeks ago, showcasing a “waterdrop” style notch like the one in the Oppo R17 Pro and the Vivo V11, as well as stock Android Pie out of the box. So it’s pretty safe to say that we’re nearing the launch of the Moto G7 lineup. Of course, leaks are leaks, and things may change or turn out completely differently by release time, so take all of this with a grain of salt.
