Urbanova partners with Gallup to further smart city projects

Spokane, WA-based smart city living lab Urbanova is partnering with global analytics and advisory company Gallup to identify meaningful smart city projects.

Under the partnership, Gallup will conduct qualitative in-depth interviews with key stakeholders and comprehensive data review to identify public priorities that smart city projects can address.

Urbanova seeks to identify priorities of citizens and also the “pain points” in the community to effectively align its projects with key issues related to public health, infrastructure, economic development, government, transportation and social issues.

Kim Zentz, managing director of Urbanova, and co-director at Washington State University’s smart cities initiatives, said, “As cities grow and adapt, they will be more connected – people to places and to each other. Neighborhoods and communities are defined by those who live there. Urbanova is focused on harnessing data to gain insights, empower people and solve urban challenges. By collaborating with Gallup, we are delivering on our commitment to identify citizen-driven applications that matter to people and that strive for social, environmental and economic resiliency and equity. Ultimately, we expect to develop a process that is replicable and scalable for other communities to use.”

Elsewhere, transportation platform provider Kritek and manufacturer of signs and billboards, Skyline Products, have partnered to introduce a cloud-based smart city solution designed to improve traffic flow.

The companies’ planned offering will combine the hardware with cloud-based software. It is designed to work on top of the existing infrastructure, thus eliminating the need for cities to redesign or remodel existing infrastructure. This will help cities overcome the cost barrier faced in adopting smart city solutions.
