At this year’s Mobile World Congress, Sony unveiled its latest smartphone trio: the Xperia 1, Xperia 10, and Xperia 10 Plus. All 3 smartphones have cinematic 21:9 displays, but only the Xperia 1 packs flagship-tier specifications. It’s got the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 mobile platform, a 6.5-inch 4K OLED panel, triple rear cameras, and stereo speakers. During the announcement, Sony didn’t unveil any specifics on the pricing or availability of its latest flagship. Today, however, Sony has confirmed both details for the U.S. market.
The Sony Xperia 1 will be available starting July 12th in the United States. The device will be available through Best Buy, Amazon, B&H Photo, Focus Camera, and other retailers for $950. That’s a steep price considering the prices of competing flagship smartphones like the OnePlus 7 Pro, Xiaomi Mi 9, and ASUS ZenFone 6. Sony is delivering cutting-edge imaging and display technology on the Xperia 1 in the hopes that consumers will pay the premium. We’re hearing rumors that the Xperia 2 is on the way, though, so keep an eye out on how the ecosystem evolves over the next 2 months before making a final decision.
